This system at a leading producer of oleochemicals consists of a gas-fuelled thermal oil system with peripherals in a brand-new boiler room.

As heat demand can vary from ca 650kW over a period of 9 hours to as much as ca 5,000kW for about 45 minutes, depending on the phase of the process cycle, we opted for a combination of two boilers to meet the specified load capacities and time frames.

A thermal oil boiler with a nominal output of 700kW - complete with flue gas heat recovery system - on the one hand and a standard thermal oil boiler with a nominal output of 4,500kW on the other hand.

Both boilers are set up horizontally and are equipped with an electronically modulating low NOx gas burner.

Each boiler is fitted with its own degasser-expansion chiller, dimensioned to suit the specific boiler flow rate, and both systems are connected to a common expansion vessel.

The expansion vessel is dimensioned to accommodate the oil content of the entire system, thus dispensing with the need for a storage tank as a separate collection vessel.

The thermal oil boilers are designed to work at

  • 290°C – 250°C
  • Maximum operating temperature: 305°C
  • Design temperature: 320°C
  • Design pressure: 10 barg
