Innovation with the Department of Technology

Turning emerging innovations into real added value

In the Department of Technology, we match pressing business needs with new technologies. To do so, we capture and analyze innovations at an early stage. Then we engineer solutions that deliver added value in your production environment at exactly the right moment.

E-boilers and heat pumps, for example, are technologies the Department of Technology advanced for industrial processes, while it meanwhile turned MVR (Mechanical Vapor Recompression) into a profitable decarbonization technique.

Strict emission standards keep technology sharp

Europe’s strict emission standards are forcing industry to rethink its heating and air systems. Under regulations such as ETS and CBAM, CO2 and NOx emissions must come down drastically, yet companies need to stay competitive. That is why we keep focusing on emerging technologies.

The Department of Technology makes technologies feasible and scalable across multiple industries. To achieve this, it works closely with suppliers. For instance, we already integrated various burners at customers that process their own odorous gases while generating stable heat at the same time.

Europe’s focus on emissions is making itself felt. Sharpening our technology is the only way to achieve targeted results without having to overhaul everything all the time.

MVR recovers heat from potato rollers

Featured example

For a potato-processing company, we recover waste heat from potato rollers and turn it into high-temperature process steam.

In practice, moist vapor from the production process is captured, thermally upgraded through MVR, and reintegrated into the existing steam circuit.

The expected results are promising:

  • a COP of around 4;
  • a significant drop in natural gas consumption;
  • a CO2 reduction of thousands of tons per year.

Recovering and upgrading lost heat

Lost heat is often a blind spot, even though it can easily be upgraded into useful heat. Our Technology Engineers investigate which residual streams can become a valuable heat source, and in doing so arrive at cost-efficient solutions. Not every residual stream is usable, but a surprising number of types can be turned into an asset:

  • Syngas
  • Biogas
  • Chemical vapors
  • Liquid residual streams
  • …

Curious which residual streams are actually hidden energy gains for your production? We’ll find out for you.
