Industrial water vapor extraction

Fogged-up windows, droplets forming on ceilings and pipes, or moisture on machines are often the first visible signs that water vapor is building up in a production environment. And that comes with risks. Excess moisture can affect product quality, cause corrosion, and reduce working comfort.

The Callens Group develops industrial water vapor extraction systems that capture humid process air at source and remove it in a controlled manner. The result: a balanced, safe, and energy-efficient production environment where people, machines, and processes can perform at their best.

Industrial water vapor extraction as a solution for controlled moisture removal

  • In production processes where heat and water come together, water vapor inevitably forms. Without controlled removal, this humid air can condense on machines, buildings, and products, negatively affecting the production environment and operational reliability. Industrial water vapor extraction keeps moisture levels under control by continuously removing water vapor and aligning extraction with the supply of fresh make-up air.
  • The Callens Group develops industrial water vapor extraction systems that are fully aligned with the amount of water vapor released, the production process, and the desired indoor conditions.
  • For which applications?
  • Cooking, baking, roasting, and frying processes in the food industry.
  • Washing, rinsing, and cleaning installations that release large volumes of water vapor.
  • Pasteurization, sterilization, and blanching processes.
  • Industrial dishwashing installations and cleaning lines.
  • Production environments with steam boilers, steam processes, or open hot-water baths.
  • Paper, cardboard, textile, and wood-processing plants where humid process air must be removed in a controlled way.

Technical specifications for industrial water vapor extraction

Efficient water vapor extraction starts with a clear understanding of the production process’s moisture load. The amount of water vapor released, the process temperature, and the desired indoor conditions will all determine the installation’s design. Correct dimensioning prevents condensation, limits heat losses, and ensures that excess moisture is removed continuously.

The Callens Group develops water vapor extraction systems where source extraction, air transport, ventilation, and heat recovery work together seamlessly. Depending on the application, we carefully align the extraction points, air flow rates, and air distribution with your production environment. This results in an installation that manages moisture efficiently, limits energy losses, and continues to perform reliably for years.

Benefits

BENEFITSBenefits of industrial water vapor extraction

Controlled removal of excess moisture in an industrial environment offers many benefits, such as stable production conditions, corrosion protection for installations, and working comfort. A well-designed water vapor extraction system therefore contributes to the reliability, efficiency, and sustainability of your production process.

Better hygiene

Damp surfaces create an environment that favors contamination and microbiological growth. By removing water vapor in a controlled way, the production environment stays drier and will be easier to clean.

Longer service life for installations and buildings

Moisture and condensation can cause corrosion and premature wear on machines and technical installations. Controlled water vapor extraction protects your investments and reduces long-term maintenance.

Stable production conditions

Controlled moisture management prevents unwanted fluctuations in the production environment. Processes remain predictable, and products are less affected by condensation or excess moisture.

A more comfortable working climate

Warm, humid air reduces working comfort and increases the physical load on employees. By removing water vapor efficiently, you create a more pleasant and healthier working environment.

Lower energy consumption

The extracted air often still contains a great deal of usable heat. By recovering and reusing this energy, you reduce your energy consumption and increase the efficiency of the complete air technology installation.

Less maintenance and cleaning

A dry production environment prevents moisture-related contamination and deposits on machines, structures, and technical installations, reducing the need for cleaning and maintenance interventions and maximizing the operability of your production process.

Water vapor extraction tailored to your production environment

The amount of water vapor released varies continuously. Production capacity, process temperatures, seasonal influences, and the way installations are used all cause the moisture load to change constantly. That is why efficient water vapor extraction requires a well-considered air technology concept tailored to real operating conditions.

During a technical study day, the Callens Group engineers accurately map moisture generation, airflows, process temperatures, and airflow rates. We also analyze where water vapor is released, how it spreads through the production environment, and how it affects condensation, working comfort, and the stability of the production process.

Based on this analysis, we develop a water vapor extraction system that is fully tailored to your production environment. We determine the optimal position of the extraction points, dimension the installation correctly, and investigate the possibilities for heat recovery and energy optimization. This gives you a solution that prevents condensation, uses energy efficiently, and continues to perform reliably for years.

Maintenance after installation

Even after installation, you can continue to rely on the Callens Group for maintenance and service, in cooperation with specialist partners.

During maintenance, we check the extraction points, fans, air ducts, air handling units, mechanical and electrical components, control technology, etcetera. We also inspect the operation of the heat recovery system and the complete air handling process. By detecting wear, contamination, and deviations in time, extraction capacity and moisture control are kept at the right level, energy consumption is contained, and the risk of unplanned downtime or condensation problems is reduced.

“Reliable water vapor extraction starts with an exact understanding of the moisture load, airflows, and process conditions. Only then can you prevent condensation, limit energy losses, and design an installation that performs stably for years.”

Questions? We have the answers.

Yes. Most installations are integrated into an existing production environment. We take account of the available space, existing air technology installations, production planning, and specific process conditions. By carefully positioning the extraction points, air ducts, and air handling units and aligning the installation with your existing infrastructure, we limit the impact on production and achieve efficient integration.

In many applications, yes. The extracted humid air often contains a significant amount of heat that can be recovered. Depending on the process conditions, this energy can be reused to preheat ventilation air or for other applications within the production process. During the engineering phase, the Callens Group examines whether heat recovery is technically and economically worthwhile for your situation so that you can combine efficient moisture management with lower energy consumption.

Want to know how much energy you can recover from your process air? Our specialists will be happy to carry out a technical analysis.

Preventive maintenance ensures that extraction capacity, airflows, and any heat recovery continue to function optimally. The maintenance frequency depends on the production process, operating hours, and the amount of moisture removed each day. During maintenance, we inter alia check the fans, air ducts, air handling units, control technology, and heat recovery operation. This keeps the installation energy efficient and reduces the risk of condensation problems or unplanned downtime.

Yes. As an EPCS integrator, the Callens Group oversees the entire process: from technical analysis and concept engineering to detailed engineering, production, installation, commissioning, and maintenance. Every project starts with a site visit during which our engineers analyze the moisture load, airflows, process temperatures, and production conditions. Based on that analysis, we develop a water vapor extraction system that is fully tailored to your production process.

Although both systems extract air, their purpose and technical design are fundamentally different. Water vapor extraction is designed to remove warm, humid air in a controlled manner and prevent condensation. With gas and vapor extraction, the focus is on safely removing or treating harmful, corrosive, or explosive gases and vapors, often combined with additional emission treatment such as scrubbers or afterburning. The Callens Group analyzes which substances are released during the concept engineering phase and develops the most suitable extraction solution based on that analysis. In some production environments, both systems are used side by side, each with its own function.
