Gas-fired steam boiler

Gas-fired steam boilers are still the backbone of countless industrial production processes. Thanks to their high reliability, broad output range and proven technology, they remain the most economical solution for producing process steam for many companies.

The Callens Group designs, builds and integrates gas-fired steam installations within your production environment. What do our specialists take account of? Steam demand, energy consumption and emission targets — but also your future expansion plans. Nothing is left to chance.

When is a gas-fired steam boiler the right choice?

A gas-fired steam boiler is often the most suitable solution when your production process has a continuous, reliable demand for process steam. Thanks to the high availability of natural gas, fast start-up times and broad applicability, gas-fired boilers remain an attractive choice, both technically and economically.

What’s more, today’s gas-fired steam boilers are considerably more efficient and environmentally friendly than older installations. By applying high-efficiency burners, economizers, flue gas heat recovery and advanced control technology, we reduce your fuel consumption and emissions.

5 reasons to consider gas-fired steam production

Questions? We have the answers.

Sizing not only looks at maximum steam consumption, but also factors such as peak loads, operating hours, future expansion plans and desired redundancy. Correct sizing prevents unnecessary energy consumption and ensures a stable steam supply.

The quality of the feedwater has a major impact on the service life, safety and efficiency of a steam boiler. Water that hasn’t been treated properly can cause corrosion, deposits and loss of efficiency. That is why water treatment will almost always form part of a professional steam installation.

A steam boiler requires periodic maintenance of, among other things, the burner, safety devices, water treatment and control components. Regular maintenance not only increases operational reliability but also helps keep the installation’s efficiency up to standard. Want to know more about our maintenance contracts and 24/7 service? Our specialists will be happy to fill you in.

Absolutely. Heat recovery is one of the most effective ways to increase the efficiency of a gas-fired steam installation. Techniques such as economizers, flue gas heat exchangers or condensate recovery make it possible to reuse heat that would otherwise be lost within the production process. The recovered energy can be used to, for instance, preheat feedwater, process water or other heat consumers on site. This lowers fuel consumption, reduces CO₂ emissions and helps cut operating costs. Want to know how much energy your steam installation could potentially recover? Our specialists will gladly analyze your current installation.

Modern steam boilers feature modulating burners that automatically adjust output to the current steam demand. This keeps the steam pressure stable and avoids unnecessary fuel consumption.

With proper maintenance, an industrial steam boiler can easily remain operational for twenty to thirty years or more. Do bear in mind though that its effective service life will depend on factors such as water quality, operating hours, load profile and maintenance.

As an EPCS integrator, Callens Group takes charge of the entire process: from on-site analysis and engineering to installation and service. You can find out more about the various steps in our workflow here.

The applicable emission requirements vary by country, sector and installation output. Modern steam boilers are therefore often equipped with low-NOx burners and advanced control technology to comply with the current environmental legislation.

Yes. Although electrification is becoming increasingly important, modern gas-fired steam boilers remain a relevant technology within the energy transition. Through high efficiency, heat recovery, hybrid configurations and alternative fuels, companies can reduce their emissions step by step without compromising operational reliability. Want to know which sustainability options are possible for your steam plant? Our engineers will be happy to explore them with you.

For a producer of oils and fats, the Callens Group delivered a new steam plant with a gas-fired backup steam boiler and an HRSG installation coupled to a gas turbine. The existing installation was bedeviled with malfunctions, putting the stability of the steam network and process temperatures under pressure. A backup boiler of 23 tons of steam per hour restored the continuity of the production process. The project resulted in more efficient, more reliable steam production, with a capacity of 23 t/h on natural gas, a design pressure of 18 barg and an operating pressure of 15 barg. More info:
