Industrial air drying

Moisture in process air has a direct impact on the quality of many industrial production processes. By accurately controlling the moisture content of process air, you create consistent production conditions that are independent of the season or weather conditions.

The Callens Group develops industrial air-drying systems that are fully tailored to your production process. From drying rooms and drying towers to production and storage environments, we create process air with the right properties for consistent product quality, higher efficiency, and energy-efficient operation.

When is industrial air drying useful?

Industrial air drying is used when the moisture content of the air has a direct impact on the production process or the quality of the end product. This would include the drying processes in the food industry, the chemical and pharmaceutical sectors, paper and cardboard processing, plastics processing, and many other industrial applications.

By keeping the moisture content of process air under control, you create stable process conditions that are independent of weather conditions or seasonal influences. Drying processes become more predictable, product quality remains consistent, and the risk of rejected products is reduced.

Technical specifications for industrial air drying

The amount of moisture air can absorb changes continuously under the influence of temperature. That is why every drying process requires precise alignment of temperature, relative humidity, and airflow rate. Only when these parameters are in balance, stable and reproducible drying conditions can be achieved.

The Callens Group develops air-drying systems that are fully aligned with the required process conditions. Depending on the application, we combine different air technologies to continuously guarantee the desired humidity and temperature. Air distribution, control technology, and energy consumption are also considered as one integrated whole.

Every installation is designed according to the desired drying result, production capacity, and the specific characteristics of your production process. This gives you an air-drying system that combines consistent product quality with energy-efficient operation.

benefits

Benefits of industrial air drying

Moisture is one of the most unpredictable factors in industrial production processes. As soon as humidity fluctuates, drying time, product quality, and process stability change as well. With industrial air drying, you create controlled process conditions that deliver the same results day after day.

Consistent product quality

Stable relative humidity ensures that products are dried under identical conditions. This reduces quality differences between production batches and helps the end product consistently meet the required specifications.

Shorter and predictable drying times

By dehumidifying process air in a controlled way, the drying process becomes faster and, above all, more consistent. This increases production capacity and makes your production planning more reliable.

Longer service life for machines and installations

Low and controlled humidity limits condensation and corrosion on machines, piping, and technical installations. As a result, installations remain in good condition for longer and maintenance and repair costs decrease.

Less product loss

Consistent drying conditions reduce the risk of insufficiently or unevenly dried products. This lowers scrap, limits raw material loss, and increases the efficiency of your production process.

Lower energy consumption

Dry air absorbs moisture faster than humid air. As a result, the desired drying result can often be achieved with less energy or in less time. A well-designed air-drying system helps lower operating costs.

Higher production capacity

Controlled humidity speeds up drying processes and prevents production lines from waiting until products are sufficiently dry. This improves throughput and helps you use your installations more efficiently.

Industrial air drying tailored to your production process

There is no universal recipe for industrial air drying. The optimal moisture content of process air depends on the product, the desired drying time, production capacity, and environmental conditions. So, a solution that works perfectly for the food industry is not automatically suitable for the chemical or pharmaceutical sector.

During an on-site visit, the Callens Group engineers analyze how moisture moves through your production process and which process conditions are needed to guarantee a stable drying process. This includes mapping the desired relative humidity, temperature, airflow rates, moisture load, and interaction with other process steps.

Based on these measurements and calculations, we develop an air-drying system that is fully aligned with your production environment. We determine the most suitable drying technology, dimension the installation correctly, and tune the controls precisely to your process. This gives you an energy-efficient solution that combines consistent product quality with maximum operational reliability.

Maintenance after installation

Even after installation, you can continue to rely on the Callens Group for maintenance and service, in cooperation with specialist partners.

During maintenance, we check the mechanical and electrical components, controls, sensors, filters, and the operation of the complete air-drying installation. By detecting deviations in time and intervening preventively, the desired humidity and process conditions are maintained, energy consumption remains under control, and the risk of unplanned downtime is significantly reduced.

Questions? We have the answers.

The ideal relative humidity differs from one process to another and depends on the product, the desired drying time, the process temperature, and the required product quality. That is why there is no standard setting for industrial air drying. During an on-site visit, the Callens Group engineers analyze your full production process. Based on measurements and calculations, we determine the optimal process conditions and develop an air-drying system that suits your application to perfection.

Want to know which humidity level is optimal for your production process? Our experts will be happy to advise you.

Condensation occurs when warm, humid air comes into contact with colder surfaces. This can lead to corrosion, microbiological growth, quality loss, and unwanted downtime. The Callens Group carefully aligns temperature, humidity, airflows, and airflow rates so that condensation does not get a chance and that your production process continues to operate reliably.

The choice of the right air-drying technology depends on the desired humidity, process temperature, production capacity, and product characteristics. Depending on your situation, the Callens Group selects the most suitable technology or a combination of technologies. Because we work independently of specific technologies, you can be sure of a solution that best fits your production process, both technically and economically.

Not sure which air-drying technology is most suitable for your company? Our specialists are happy to think along with you.

Yes. A well-designed air-drying installation not only limits the moisture content of process air, but also optimally aligns temperature, airflow rate, and controls. This makes drying processes more efficient and ensures that only the energy needed to achieve the desired process conditions is used. In addition, the Callens Group examines the possibilities for heat recovery and energy-efficient installation control in every project.

Correct air balancing is essential. In other words, supplied and extracted air volumes must be carefully aligned. An incorrect balance can cause drafts, doors that are difficult to close, unwanted airflows between different zones, or reduced performance of extraction installations. Depending on the production process, a slight overpressure or negative pressure can also be an option.
