Heat grid for more sustainable energy consumption

Callens system puts the residual heat generated by this client to sustainable use! A thermal oil and central heating circuit now feeds into the city’s new heat grid.

The Ostend heat grid is another energy supplier the richer! The incineration of household rubbish collected throughout the region left our client with considerable amounts of energy on its hands. But, thanks to the thermal oil and central heating circuit we installed and connected to the heat grid, that energy is no longer going to waste. Every possible kWh residual heat is now being recovered and put to sustainable use to heat homes, schools and hospitals.

As usual, we fitted the system with an economiser that heats a separate thermal oil circuit which, in turn, generates heat for the heat grid. At that, we added the necessary pumps and expansion vessels. Last but not least, we also fed the residual heat generated by the overheated steam and flue gasses into the heat grid via a superheater heat exchanger. Both the heat output and the total electric consumption are monitored around the clock.
