Steam and thermal oil are a tasty match

This grower and manufacturer of potatoes is one of Callens’ loyal customers since years. His potatoes are being peeled perfectly, day and night, with steam produced by Callens. Now, we’ve added a thermal oil boiler to the furnace room to support the extra production capacity.

Callens’ steam installation has been an integral part of this customer’s boiler room for a long time. It peels the potatoes flawlessly before they are transformed into croquettes, duchess potatoes, mashed potatoes and more. A steam installation of 4 tons steam per hour guarantees an efficient peeling process. Afterwards, the potatoes undergo various thermal treatments such as frying, mashing, … which are incinerated by a thermal oil boiler with a capacity of 1 million Kcal per hour. However, the customer needed more.

Expansion calls for additional capacity of thermal oil and a piping upgrade

A brand new thermal oil boiler with a capacity of 2 million Kcal per hour now sustains the production expansion. Besides connecting the installation to the existing boiler room, the Cauls had a second challenge to tackle: upgrading the piping network to the next level. The challenge was completed successfully by removing all the different types of pipes that were connected to the balance tank, and replacing them by collector pipes.

Ultimately, Optimum by Callens designed and installed a steam boiler using baking fumes, prepared and installed by the Cauls.
