Electric steam boiler efficiently harnesses surplus electricity

The new electric steam boiler doesn’t leave any energy opportunities untapped and efficiently harnesses excess power to produce CO₂-free and cost-effective steam.

Electric steam boiler powered by combined heat and power

We installed a 5 MW electric steam boiler – in this case, a resistance boiler – that uses surplus electricity from the grid as its feedstock to produce 8 tonnes of steam per hour. This significantly reduces the use of existing gas-fired steam boilers, thereby remarkably cutting CO₂ emissions. In doing so, the electric steam boiler contributes to improved grid balancing.

Control cabinet with Callens Connect

The control cabinet responsible for the security and operation of the steam boiler is, as usual, provided by our seasoned Electrical & Instrumentation team, who programmed the control system from start to finish. Moreover, the cabinet is equipped with Callens Connect, enabling remote monitoring and proactive service.

Finally, an isolation transformer was installed to safely deliver the necessary 3 x 690 V from the high-voltage network to the boiler.
